Die TU850 MTU kan tot 16 I/O-kanale hê. Die maksimum nominale spanning is 50 V en maksimum nominale stroom is 15mA per I/O-kanaal (digitale inset) of 25mA per twee I/O-kanale (analoog insette).

Die MTU versprei die ModuleBus na die I/O-module en na die volgende MTU. Dit genereer ook die korrekte adres na die I/O-module deur die uitgaande posisieseine na die volgende MTU te verskuif.

Die MTU kan op 'n standaard DIN-reling gemonteer word. Dit het 'n meganiese grendel wat die MTU aan die DIN-reling sluit. Twee meganiese sleutels word gebruik om die MTU vir verskillende tipes I/O-modules op te stel. Dit is slegs 'n meganiese konfigurasie en dit beïnvloed nie die funksionaliteit van die MTU of die I/O-module nie.
