I sistemi FSC sono generalmente integrati in armadi in acciaio per la protezione meccanica delle delicate apparecchiature elettroniche del sistema FSC. Inoltre, il rispetto delle direttive CE richiede che i sistemi FSC siano adeguatamente chiusi.

Un sistema FSC è tipicamente costituito dai seguenti componenti principali:
• contenitore per armadio,
• gruppi di terminazione di campo (FTA) e/o terminali,
• Rack della parte centrale (CP) con tutta la CPU, la memoria e la comunicazione
moduli,
• rack di ingresso/uscita con tutti i moduli di ingresso e uscita e
• sistema di alimentazione costituito da unità di alimentazione (PSU), main
interruttori e disgiuntori.
