Die MTU ist eine passive Einheit mit Anschlüssen für die Stromversorgung, einem doppelten elektrischen ModuleBus, zwei TB840/TB840A und einem Drehschalter zur Einstellung der Cluster-Adresse (1 bis 7).
Vier mechanische Tasten, zwei für jede Position, werden verwendet, um die MTU für die richtigen Modultypen zu konfigurieren. Jede Taste hat sechs Positionen, was insgesamt 36 verschiedene Konfigurationen ergibt. Die Konfigurationen können mit einem Schraubendreher geändert werden.
