Le TU840 est une unité de terminaison de module (MTU) pour la configuration redondante du modem optique ModuleBus TB840/TB840A.
Le MTU est une unité passive dotée de connexions pour l'alimentation électrique, d'un double ModuleBus électrique, de deux TB840/TB840A et d'un commutateur rotatif pour le réglage de l'adresse du cluster (1 à 7).
Quatre touches mécaniques, deux pour chaque position, sont utilisées pour configurer le MTU pour les bons types de modules. Chaque touche possède six positions, ce qui donne un total de 36 configurations différentes. Les configurations peuvent être modifiées à l'aide d'un tournevis.
L'unité de terminaison TU840 connecte le TB840/TB840A aux E/S redondantes. L'unité de terminaison TU841 connecte le TB840/TB840A aux E/S non redondantes.
